When do I need to send out my Invites?

And when do I need to order them by?

When to send out invites

Not sure when to send out your wedding invitations, don't worry we have got you covered. You can book in early to secure your slot in the diary even if you are not sure what you would like your invites to look like just yet.

When to get booked in by

Invitations should be ordered two months prior to when you need them, with an aim to post out around the 4 month before mark, 6 months if your wedding lands on a public or school holiday such as the summer, with the intent of sending save the dates 9-12 months prior.

when to order invites

On the day stationery should be ordered one month prior to the wedding to allow for time to be created, produced and ready for collection or posting.

When to post invites by

You will inevitably have to chase up some guests for their replies and it is usually the ones who just assume you know they are coming, so to allow time to chase them up and gather all the information that you need, you should consider an RSVP date of at least 4-6 weeks before the wedding date.

Alternatively you can set your daytime date ahead of your evening date, this way if you have guests who cannot attend the day you may wish to 'promote' an evening guest to a day guest. This is why I suggest having a few spares of each (daytime and evening) along with any mistakes made when hand writing out names and addresses.

Most venues or caterers prefer final numbers and meal choices around the 4 week mark so that they can make their final preparations and place stock orders.

when to ask for wedding RSVP to be back by

Some couples like to save on postage and send in with Christmas cards, but here is why I suggest that this is not always a good option. When you see a Christmas card arrive, you know that is what it is going to be and therefore may not open it right away, and it ends up in a pile of spam flyers that arrived the same day and there is a chance it could end up in the bin accidentally.

During the festive season people are madly rushing around trying to organise the shopping and the wrapping and the decorating and can forget to RSVP thinking that they'll 'get around it' and never do. Also when thinking about stamps adding in your invites can make it heavier and thicker needing a different price of stamp. And whilst we are talking about stamps be sure to buy them prior to April each year when the prices annually rise.
