What is the difference between Style & Design? | Are these interchangeable?

On my socials, in my chats and on the website I talk a lot about style or design, but what does that actually mean?
I'll ask questions like "do you have a style in mind?" or things like "have you seen a design that you like?"
When you are new to wedding planning you may not know the difference between these, so let's break it down.

What is Design?
Design is how it looks, how it feels, what message does it convey, fun, romantic, bright and bold, whimsical or traditional.
Remember that your stationery is the first glimpse your guests will get of your big day, so setting the tone early is key. Stationery will be used right through your day and help create a flow alongside your cake, your wedding party colours, your florals and decor. Make it count! make it memorable.
What is Style?
When I am asking you what style you like, this is the finish of the invite, it takes into consideration how much information you need to give on your invitations and which style will house this best.
I have a range of styles that are great for different amounts of information. From just key details to full blown weekend events.
If you are just needing the key details to be shown on your invites you may only require a more simplistic style, such as:
Postcard
Folded card
If you require a little more information such as menu details or gift poems you may choose a style such as:
Layered
Gatefold
If you would like to give more information and would like to keep it altogether in one place, you may choose a style such as:
Concertina
Pocketfold
Alternatively you may simply want to choose a style for the way it feels or looks, such as:
Deckled Edge
Vellum Wrap
They are no hard and fast rules for choosing the style that you want.
If you are unsure of the type of information you need to include on your invitations take a look at my blog post 'What do I really need on my invites?'
But what if I plan to use a wedding website?
You can still have beautiful invitations and have a wedding website, if you opt to use a website I would suggest just having your key essential details on the invites, then opt to have a QR code which your guests can scan to open your website and see your full details online, some wedding websites also allow your guests to select their menu choices and send the RSVPs.
Alternatively a QR code can be used to scan to a wedding email address (I would suggest creating a new email address that you can both access and saves from shifting through the daily spam on your regular email). It can scan to a mobile number or to a google form which collects the data that you set out (the best part of this idea is you can easily see your responses and download the sheet for giving to your caterer/venue).
I want my on the day stationery to match?
Any design that I create for your invitations will be used across all your stationery requirements, so that it creates a cohesive look and the theme is easily recognisable when your guests finally see it all come together on your big day.
So can design and style be swapped?
Absolutely, if you like a particular style or design it can be used on many different variations. If you want colours to be swapped out this can be organised too. The same design from a concertina style can be used on a vellum wrap or folded card or postcard.
If you are unsure or have more questions, simply reach out using my contact form to discuss further.
Can you create our QR code?
Do not panic if you do not know how to create a QR code, it is a service I can help with. As mentioned above it can be directed to a number of different places, if you think you may need a handful of physical RSVPs to give to guests who perhaps wouldn't understand how to use the QR code or who you think would likely prefer to post back their reply this can also be included in your package.

Do you offer packages?
I have 8 set packages available on my website which can be found here, offering a range of items from save the dates, invitations, newspapers, signage, reserved tags and thank you cards.
If you would like a package but none are quite right, I can create a bespoke package for you.
So how do we get booked in?
You can secure your slot by paying the £50 (non refundable) booking fee which is deducted from your total balance. The balance needs to be paid in full prior to printing commences and the rest is kept on account until your on the day items and thank you cards are printed.
Giving you peace of mind that is another item ticked off your to do list.
Look forward to working with you to create luxury items. From dreamy, modern touches to keepsake, Insta-worthy finishes, your stationery will set the tone for a celebration as beautiful as your journey together.
