When do I need to send out my Invites?

Updated: Sep 18

And when do I need to order them by?

Sending out invites

Not sure when to send out your wedding invitations, don't worry we have got you covered.

Invite timeline

Sending out your invitations in good time is the best way to ensure that guests attend your special day. We would advise that invitations are sent out around 3 months before your wedding date, this ensure that you have had all your timings set for the day and the menu has been finalised if you need to collect options on your invitations.

These timescales give you an idea of when to send out your invitations and when to get them ordered, but you can certainly reach out to us ahead of these timescales to start planning your perfect set.

when to order invites

We would advise you get in contact about your invitations around 6 months prior to your day, to allow time for a discussion or meeting about how you would like them to look and what information you would like on them, I have another useful blog post for invitation wording here.

when to rsvp

You will inevitably have to chase up some guests for their replies and it is usually the ones who just assume you know they are coming, so to allow time to chase them up and gather all the information that you need, you should consider an RSVP date of at least 4-6 weeks before the wedding date.

Alternatively you can set your daytime date ahead of your evening date, this way if you have guests who cannot attend the day you may wish to 'promote' an evening guest to day. This is why I suggest having a few spares of each (daytime and evening) along with any mistakes made when hand writing out names and addresses.

Most venues or caterers prefer final numbers and meal choices around the 4 week mark so that they can make their final preparations and place stock orders.

points to note

Some couples like to save on postage and send in with Christmas cards, but here is why I suggest that this is not always a good option. When you see a Christmas card arrive, you know that is what it is going to be and therefore may not open it right away, and it ends up in a pile of spam flyers that arrived the same day and there is a chance it could end up in the bin accidentally.

During the festive season people are madly rushing around trying to organise the shopping and the wrapping and the decorating and can forget to RSVP thinking that they'll 'get around it' and never do. Also when thinking about stamps adding in your invites can make it heavier and thicker needing a different price of stamp. And whilst we are talking about stamps be sure to buy them prior to April each year when the prices annually rise.

Sending out save the dates 9-12 months ahead of your big day means your guests are expecting your invites and have likely already added it to their calendars, but to find out more about save the dates read this blog post.

get booked in

To ensure that you have some peace of mind, you can get booked in today and we can then set a date to discuss further. To do so you can book in here. Remember you're brand new to all this so ask your suppliers for advice or recommendations, we work with lots of suppliers so if you are still looking for something in particular, give us a shout and we can recommend someone to you.
